About Us
At Waianiwa Park we farm cattle and sheep using traditional farming practises. There are no winter crops like fodder beet or kale, just good old fashioned grasses and a small amount of lucerne. We cut and bale the lucerne along with producing some meadow hay to provide supplementary feed during the winter months.
Maximising production is not our objective. We are all about producing happy, healthy animals in a very low stress environment.
There are no farm working dogs or heavy machinery on the property. We handle our stock on foot. They generally follow us from one paddock to another when it’s time to move them onto fresh grass
“We have happy animals, enjoying good food, in a low stress environment with minimal human intervention.”
Our Stock
beef
We have two beef breed herds.
Limousin is a traditional French breed noted for its highly muscled beef yielding lean tender meat. In France they are referred to as the “butcher’s animal”. We are a member of the Australian Limousin Breeders Society.
Speckle Park is a Canadian breed developed from three English breeds; Teeswater Shorthorn, Aberdeen Angus and White Park. This breed is noted for its highly marbled, fine tender meat. We are a member of Speckle Park International Inc.
sheep
Our sheep breed is Dorper, a South African breed that self-sheds its wool negating the requirement for shearing. It is a hardy breed producing lean tender meat that is a little sweeter and milder than that of most other breeds.
